Northwest High School will induct six new members into its Hall of Fame at the annual Knight of Honor, to be held Thursday, April 14th at Receptions in Fairfield at 6:30 PM. Former NFL football player, Super Bowl Champion and current WLW radio talent, Rocky Boiman will be the featured speaker at this year’s event. Tickets for the Knight of Honor are $35 and can be purchased through the Northwest High School Athletic Department beginning March 1st.
The six members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2016 are Seth Eckerlin (‘06), John Flowers (‘98), Darren Heidenreich (‘92), Bruce Kennedy (‘98), Heather McKee (‘10) and Darren Schneider (‘01).
Seth Eckerlin: Class of 2006
A standout soccer player for the Knights, Seth Eckerlin helped lead the Northwest Soccer to some of the most successful seasons in school history, with a pair of FAVC Cardinal Division Titles in 2003 and 2005.
Seth earned several individual accolades throughout his career including 1st Team ALL FAVC Honors in 2005, a year he was also named FAVC Player of the Year. Seth received 1st Team ALL City Honors in 2004 and 2005. Seth left his mark on the Northwest Record Books as well, ranking in the top 10 in career Goals, Assists, Offensive Points and Number of Halves Played.
Upon Graduation, Seth played four years at Northern Kentucky University playing in 91 career games and helping the Norse to 3 consecutive NCAA Regional Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Seth continues his passion for the sport of soccer as he has served as a coach at various levels upon graduation from NKU.
John Flowers: Class of 1998
John excelled in multiple sports during his time at Northwest High School, earning multiple Varsity Letters in 3 different sports. Though John found success in baseball and basketball during his time at Northwest, John shined on the football field as he was a 3 year letter winner for the Knights, broke the Single Season Rushing Record as a junior and selected team captain as a senior. That same year, John received the Knight Award, was named 1st Team All Queen City Conference, the OHSAA Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award, Honorable mention All Southwest Ohio and selected to play in the SWOFCA East-West All Star Game.
John held records in many categories including, Longest Touchdown Run from Scrimmage (93 yards), Longest Punt Return (98 yards) and Career Rushing yards (3,130). John was selected as the Top Athlete in the graduating class of 1998 and was also selected Homecoming King in the Fall of 1997.
Upon graduation, John attended the College of Mount St. Joseph where he continued his playing career for one season before transferring to Miami University of Ohio.
John and his wife, the former Kristen Speeg (a Northwest Alum), reside with their three children Braylon, Kyler, and Jayla in West Chester, Ohio.
Darren Heidenreich: Class of 1992
Darren is considered one of the most decorated and accomplished swimmers in Northwest High School history. Darren competed on the varsity swim team for three seasons as a Knight. Each of those seasons finding himself among the best swimmers in the State of Ohio. With three consecutive Top Eight finishes in the State Swimming Tournament under Coach Bob Wiley, Darren brought home a pair of Sectional and District Titles during his senior year in both the 500 and 200 Freestyle Events, placing 4th and 6th respectively at the State Meet.
After Graduation, Darren attended Wright State University where he continued to swim at the collegiate level and earned Conference Swimmer of the Year honors as a senior after winning all three of his individual events. Darren held the mile record for sixteen years at Wright State and is now a member of the Wright State Athletic Wall of Fame. Darren now runs his own Halloween prop business and resides in Liberty Township with wife, Krista, and three sons, Jackson, Phillip and Jasper.
Bruce Kennedy: Class of 1998
Bruce Kennedy was a three sport athlete at Northwest High School competing in Football, Wrestling and Baseball. In football, Bruce was standout, earning All Conference and All City honors as he was selected to play in the SWOFCA East West All-Star Game as a senior. Bruce excelled on the mat as well having won multiple conference championships and placing 3rd in the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament as a senior.
Upon graduation, Bruce attended Wilmington College where he was a multi-sport athlete competing in both Football and Wrestling. At Wilmington he was selected to the All-Conference Teams in both sports and was named Academic All America.
Heather McKee: Class of 2010
Heather is the most decorated Female Golfer in Northwest High School History. If it wasn’t for Heather creating a petition in 2004, Northwest High School would not have had a Girls Golf Team. Heather has set the standard for athletic excellence at Northwest High School. The record book has her name all over it. Heather received countless accolades while competing during her four years at Northwest including; 4 year Varsity Captain, 4 Time Team MVP, 2 Time FAVC Score Leader and Player of the Year, Medalist in 42 High School matches, 2 Time District Qualifier, 4 Time First Team All- City, 4 Time All Conference, 2009 Cincinnati Junior Ryder Cup Golf Team and 2009 Northwest Press Sportswoman of the Year.
Heather’s success in the classroom and on the course allowed her the opportunity to continue her education and athletic career at Northern Kentucky University. At NKU, she competed for 2 years before giving up her Amateur Status and becoming an Apprentice for the Professional Golfers Association.
Heather is currently the Assistant Golf Professional at The Mill Course for the Great Parks of Hamilton County where she continues to pursue her personal golf goals and teach the game to others. Heather resides in Colerain Township with her fiancé John and their two dogs, Kairi and Baylee.
Darren Schneider: Class of 2001
Darren was multi-sport athlete at Northwest High School, earning a Varsity Letters in Basketball, Baseball and Football. Darren excelled on the football field during his Junior and Senior campaigns for the Knights. Darren was selected to the All FAVC 1st Team, All Southwest Ohio 2nd Team and was a USA Today “Top Performer” for his Week 9 performance in 2000 where he posted 429 passing yards, 5 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns. Darren was selected to play in SWOFCA East/West All-Star game as senior. At the time of his graduation, Darren held the single game, season and career marks for passing and touchdowns at Northwest High School.
Darren attended Whittenberg University where he played both football and baseball.
Darren and his wife, the former Melissa Roden, live in Fairfield with their two children, Ava and Easten.
